Advanced Practitioner – Children in Care

Job Type: Temporary (3–6 Months)
Pay Rate: £33.30 per hour

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Advanced Practitioner to join a well-established Children in Care Team on a temporary basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled social worker to support children and young people with permanency plans while also helping to drive high-quality social work practice across the team.

Advanced Practitioners play a key role in mentoring colleagues, modelling excellent practice, and supporting complex casework to achieve the best outcomes for children in care.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage complex Children in Care caseloads
• Support permanency planning, reunification, adoption, fostering, and pathway planning
• Provide coaching, guidance, and reflective supervision to colleagues
• Support less experienced social workers with practice development
• Chair stability meetings and permanency planning meetings
• Work collaboratively with families, carers, and partner agencies
• Support young people transitioning into adulthood
• Promote positive outcomes and relational social work practice
• Maintain accurate records and high-quality case management

About the Team

The Children in Care Team supports children with permanency plans including:

• Adoption
• Long-term fostering
• Residential care
• Connected family placements
• Special Guardianship Orders (SGO)
• Reunification planning

The service also supports asylum-seeking children transferred through the National Transfer Scheme.

Requirements

• SWE Registered Social Worker
• Minimum 3 years permanent post-qualified experience
• Significant experience within statutory children’s social care
• Experience supporting or mentoring colleagues within social care settings
• Strong knowledge of Children in Care and permanency planning
• Ability to manage complex caseloads and support practice development
• Strong organisational and communication skills
